UAE saves Iraqi child with world’s costliest injection

## Successful Fundraising Campaign

In a remarkable humanitarian effort, the United Arab Emirates has successfully raised 10.6 million dirhams to fund a life-saving treatment for Youssef, a 10-year-old Iraqi boy suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This rare genetic disorder progressively weakens muscles and the heart, posing severe health risks.

## Community Support

The fundraising campaign was organized in collaboration with the Dar Al Ber Society and was initiated by a public appeal from Al Khaleej Newspaper. The campaign's success has provided Youssef with access to what is considered the world's most expensive therapeutic injection.

## A Mother's Relief

Youssef's mother expressed immense gratitude, stating that the UAE's intervention not only saved her son's life but also brought hope to their family, which had been living in fear since Youssef's diagnosis at the age of four. His condition had caused frequent falls and difficulty in movement, leading to a diagnosis of muscular dystrophy.

## Medical Journey

Youssef's father, Haider Al Waeli, shared that his son underwent extensive medical examinations and laboratory tests before receiving the injection. The treatment aims to slow the progression of the disease and improve Youssef's quality of life.
