World Cup to get cash boost as FIFA unveils red card crackdown

## Financial Boost for World Cup Teams

FIFA has announced a significant increase in financial support for teams participating in the 2026 World Cup. The total cash distribution will now reach $871 million, up from the previously planned $727 million. This decision was made to address concerns over rising costs associated with travel, taxes, and operations for the tournament.

Each team will receive $2.5 million for preparation costs, an increase from the previous $1.5 million. Additionally, the reward for qualifying for the tournament has been raised to $10 million. These changes aim to alleviate financial pressures on the participating teams.

## New Red Card Regulations

FIFA has introduced new rules for the upcoming World Cup, including a red card penalty for players who cover their mouths during confrontations. This measure is part of an initiative to combat racism on the field. The rule was confirmed after a meeting of the International Football Association Board.

Another rule change involves issuing red cards to players who leave the field in protest of a referee's decision. This follows an incident at the Africa Cup of Nations final, where Senegal's team walked off the pitch after a controversial penalty decision.

## Changes to Yellow Card Sanctions

FIFA has also revised the enforcement of yellow card sanctions. Yellow cards received during the group stage will be canceled after the first round and again after the quarter-finals. This change is intended to prevent key players from missing crucial matches due to accumulated yellow cards.
