## UAE's First Natural World Heritage Site
Wadi Wurayah National Park in Fujairah has been officially recognized as the UAE's first natural site on UNESCO's World Heritage List. This recognition was announced during the 48th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea.
## Significance of Wadi Wurayah
The park is celebrated for its exceptional natural value, including its rich biodiversity and unique geological formations. It is one of the Arabian Peninsula's key freshwater ecosystems, home to a variety of plant and animal species, some of which are rare or threatened.
## Global Recognition and Conservation Efforts
The UNESCO designation highlights the UAE's commitment to environmental conservation and aligns with international standards. It enhances the global recognition of Wadi Wurayah's ecological importance and supports ongoing efforts to preserve its ecosystems for future generations.
## Unique Features of the Park
Wadi Wurayah is located in the Hajar Mountains and features valleys, waterfalls, and perennial freshwater springs. It hosts over 1,099 species, including 883 animal species and 216 plant species, and serves as a habitat for at least 10 globally threatened species.
## Other UNESCO Sites in the UAE
With Wadi Wurayah's inclusion, the UAE now boasts three World Heritage properties: the Cultural Sites of Al Ain, Faya Palaeolandscape in Sharjah, and Wadi Wurayah National Park.
