Kochi's midnight rescue: Stranded cat saved from Metro pillar

## Community Effort Saves Stranded Cat

In a remarkable rescue operation, the city of Kochi in Kerala united to save a cat stranded on a Metro pillar for nearly two weeks. The cat, affectionately named 'Subhash' by local autorickshaw drivers, was stuck near Kaloor Stadium. Its cries attracted the attention of passersby, leading to a gathering of concerned residents.

## Midnight Rescue Operation

On Saturday night, a coordinated effort by the Fire and Rescue Services and animal welfare volunteers was launched. The team, led by personnel from the Gandhi Nagar Fire Station, worked for hours to safely bring the cat down at around 1:30 am on Sunday. The successful rescue was met with cheers from the crowd.

## Social Media Sparks Action

The operation was prompted by social media posts showing the stranded cat. Metro staff had been providing food and water while planning a safe rescue. Initial attempts to reach the cat were unsuccessful, leading to a temporary halt of Metro services and traffic restrictions in the area. A crane and hydraulic lift were eventually used to secure the cat in a net and bring it down safely.

## The Story Behind the Name

The name 'Subhash' was inspired by a character from the Malayalam film "Manjummel Boys," where a character named Subhash is rescued from a cave. The autorickshaw drivers saw a parallel in the cat's predicament and adopted the name.
