## Contract Type and Duration
In the UAE, most private-sector jobs are based on fixed-term contracts. It's crucial to verify the start and end dates, renewal conditions, and notice period for termination or resignation. Ensure the contract aligns with your offer letter to avoid discrepancies.
## Salary Structure
Your contract should clearly outline your basic salary and any allowances, such as housing or transport. This breakdown is important as benefits like end-of-service gratuity are calculated based on the basic salary alone.
## Probation Period
Probation can last up to six months, during which either party can terminate the contract with written notice. If you leave without notice, you may face a work permit ban for up to a year.
## Working Hours
Standard working hours are up to 8 hours a day or 48 hours a week. Some sectors may have different rules, so check your contract for specific details on shifts and overtime eligibility.
## Overtime Rules
Overtime pay is based on your basic salary, with additional compensation for hours worked beyond the standard schedule. However, managerial roles may be exempt from overtime provisions.
## Annual Leave
Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave after one year of service. If employment ends before using leave, compensation is provided for the unused days.
## End-of-Service Benefits
Gratuity is calculated on the basic salary and increases with service length. Employers must settle all dues within 14 days of the last working day.
## Notice Period
The notice period for contract termination ranges from 30 to 90 days. Review your contract for specific terms and any payment provisions in lieu of notice.
## Non-Compete Clauses
These clauses may restrict you from joining competitors for up to two years post-employment. They must be clearly defined to be enforceable.
## Contract Changes
Employers cannot alter contract terms without your written consent. Any unauthorized changes are legally invalid. Ensure you receive a copy of your contract as required by UAE law.
