## Positive Doping Test at T20 World Cup

Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Nawaz has been handed a ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after testing positive for a banned substance. The test was conducted following the ICC Men's T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 7, 2026.

## Substance of Abuse Detected

The 32-year-old all-rounder tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a substance classified as a "Substance of Abuse". Nawaz admitted to the violation, clarifying that the substance was used outside of competition and not for performance enhancement.

## Ban and Treatment Program

Nawaz accepted a three-month suspension, which was retroactively applied from May 1, 2026, when he began a voluntary provisional suspension. The ICC noted that his results from the match against the Netherlands and subsequent games up to May 1 were disqualified.

## Potential Reduction in Suspension

The ICC stated that Nawaz's ban could be reduced to one month if he successfully completes a substance abuse treatment program. Having already served two-and-a-half months of suspension, Nawaz's provisional ban has been lifted. If he completes the treatment program satisfactorily, he will not face further ineligibility and can resume playing.
