## France Battles Unprecedented Wildfires
French President Emmanuel Macron has declared a "zero tolerance" policy towards arson following devastating wildfires that have ravaged thousands of hectares across the country. The fires, described as the worst since World War II, have been exacerbated by intense heatwaves and dry conditions.
## Arrests and Legal Actions
Authorities have arrested numerous individuals for either deliberately or accidentally starting fires. In one notable incident, two construction workers were charged after a spark from their equipment ignited a blaze in the Fontainebleau forest, a significant area near Paris.
## Impact and Response
The fires have forced around 1,000 residents to evacuate and have affected approximately 35,000 hectares of land. Over 950 firefighters are actively working to control the situation, though strong winds and rising temperatures continue to pose challenges.
## Government Initiatives
In response to the crisis, Macron announced plans to raise funds for the rehabilitation and protection of affected areas, including the UNESCO-listed Fontainebleau forest. The government is committed to preventing further destruction and ensuring the safety of its national territory.
