## New Guidelines for Water Coolers
Dubai Municipality has introduced comprehensive safety standards for public drinking water coolers and charity fridges. These measures aim to enhance public health and ensure safety compliance across the emirate.
Operators are required to test water samples every six months at accredited labs to ensure they are free from harmful bacteria. Water coolers must be installed on reinforced concrete bases, at least 10 centimeters above ground, to protect against water damage and electrical faults. They must also be securely fixed to prevent tipping.
## Charity Fridge Safety
Charity fridges, which provide free bottled water and packaged food, must be protected from sunlight and rain, using waterproof electrical connections. Only commercially packaged food is allowed, with daily checks on expiry dates to prevent spoilage.
Refrigeration temperatures must be maintained at 5°C or below. Operators must keep the area clean to prevent algae growth and pest infestations, with immediate pest control measures if needed.
## Electrical and Hygiene Standards
All units must be properly grounded and connected to safe electrical outlets. Electrical cables should be insulated and separated from water pipes to minimize shock risks. Water tanks and taps require regular cleaning, with filters replaced every six months or sooner, depending on usage.
If a cooler is unused for over a week, it must be drained and disinfected before reuse. These guidelines aim to raise awareness among operators about the risks of electrical safety, water contamination, and hygiene.
