## Historic Recognition

Union House in Dubai has been officially added to the UAE's National Register of Modern Architectural Heritage. This landmark, where the UAE's founding leaders signed the declaration of the Union in 1971, is the first entry in this new register.

## Commemorative Ceremony

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi unveiled a plaque marking this historic inclusion.

## Significance of Union House

Built in 1965, Union House was originally known as the Guest Palace. It played a pivotal role in the formation of the UAE, hosting meetings that led to the signing of the UAE Constitution on December 2, 1971. The building is now part of the Union Museum, showcasing the UAE's founding story.

## Broader Heritage Initiative

The National Register of Modern Architectural Heritage aims to preserve buildings that have significantly contributed to the UAE's history and culture. The first phase includes ten landmarks across the Emirates, such as Rashid Tower and Deira Clock Tower in Dubai, and the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi.

## Cultural and Historical Importance

Sheikh Salem highlighted the importance of preserving such sites to maintain national identity and inspire future generations. The register reflects the UAE's commitment to safeguarding its architectural and cultural heritage.
