University in Ajman with revoked licence was popular college in Sharjah, rebranded and relocated last year

## Background

Horizon University College (HUC) in Ajman, formerly known as Skyline University College in Sharjah, has had its licence revoked by the UAE's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR). This decision affects both current students and alumni, raising concerns about the validity of degrees and ongoing studies.

## Licence Revocation

The ministry announced on July 6 that HUC's institutional licence and programme accreditation were revoked due to severe violations of academic regulations. This action halts all educational activities at the institution, including admissions and issuing transcripts.

## Student Impact

Approximately 1,300 students are affected, though the exact number is undisclosed. The ministry has assured that degrees awarded before the revocation will remain valid. For current students, a task force is facilitating transfers to accredited institutions to continue their education.

## Support and Communication

A helpline (800511) has been established for affected students and parents. The ministry will provide updates through its official channels, ensuring students are informed about necessary procedures.

## Previous Incidents

This is not the first instance of such action by MoHESR. In December 2025, Midocean University faced similar penalties, though the consequences for HUC differ as their degrees remain recognized.
