MRT-4: Everything you need to know about Manila's next rail line

## Overview

The Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT-4) is a new rail project designed to connect Rizal province with the EDSA-Ortigas central business district in Metro Manila. This 13.4-kilometer elevated railway aims to alleviate traffic congestion along Ortigas Avenue, one of the city's busiest corridors.

## Route and Stations

MRT-4 will feature 10 stations, starting from EDSA-Ortigas and extending to Taytay, Rizal. The stations include EDSA, Meralco, Tiendesitas, Rosario, Brookside, Cainta, Monteverde, Tikling, Manila East Road, and Taytay. The line will integrate with MRT-3 at EDSA-Ortigas, enhancing connectivity across the metro.

## Project Details

Initially planned as a monorail, MRT-4 has been upgraded to a full metro rail system to accommodate higher passenger volumes and future expansions. The project is being developed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) with financial backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

## Benefits

Once operational, MRT-4 is expected to serve over 400,000 passengers daily, significantly reducing travel times and easing road congestion. The line will provide a faster, more reliable alternative to road transport, cutting travel time from up to three hours to under 30 minutes.

## Current Status

The project is currently in the pre-construction phase, with detailed engineering designs completed. Financing negotiations between the Philippine government and ADB are ongoing, and construction is set to begin once these are finalized.

## Impact

MRT-4 is anticipated to boost economic growth in eastern Metro Manila and Rizal by improving access to jobs, schools, and commercial centers. It will also contribute to a more sustainable urban development by encouraging the use of public transportation over private vehicles.
