Why Abu Dhabi is the preferred location for $5 billion Moon resort

## Abu Dhabi's Unique Position

Abu Dhabi has emerged as the only feasible location in the UAE for the ambitious $5 billion Moon World Resorts project. The founders, Michael R. Henderson and Sandra G. Matthews, have highlighted the necessity for a large land area of 556 acres, which Abu Dhabi can provide. This requirement, along with the need for government support, makes Abu Dhabi the preferred choice.

## Project Details

The Moon resort is designed to be a smart-city development featuring a spherical resort structure. It will include hotels, restaurants, event spaces, wellness attractions, and a simulated lunar surface. The plan also encompasses a lagoon, parkland, and 10,000 branded residences. The project aims to attract 10 million visitors annually and contribute $60 billion to the UAE's GDP each year.

## Employment and Economic Impact

The development is expected to create 60,000 jobs, including 30,000 direct positions. The founders believe this will be a transformative economic contribution to the region.

## Challenges and Future Plans

Despite the promising prospects, the project faces challenges such as securing government approval and finding a local partner. The company has reached out to major developers like Aldar but has yet to finalize any agreements. The first Moon resort is anticipated to begin construction in 2027, with a potential opening in 2032. However, the exact location for the initial project remains undecided, with several countries under consideration.
