Sabarimala unveils sweeping reforms before pilgrimage

## Comprehensive Digital Overhaul

The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has announced significant changes to enhance the Sabarimala pilgrimage experience. These include full digitisation of services and the introduction of AI-based crowd management. The reforms aim to streamline operations and improve the overall experience for devotees.

## Expanded Online Booking

A major update is the expansion of online accommodation booking at Sannidhanam. Previously, only 190 rooms were available online, but this will increase to 550. The security deposit requirement has been removed, and pilgrims can now book rooms by paying the rent in advance with a nominal service charge.

## AI Control Rooms and Crowd Management

AI-enabled control rooms will be set up at the TDB headquarters and Sannidhanam to efficiently monitor pilgrim movement and manage crowds. This technological upgrade is expected to enhance safety and convenience during the pilgrimage.

## Pilgrim Welfare Initiatives

In a move to support pilgrims, the TDB will provide Rs 1 lakh in insurance assistance to the families of 54 pilgrims who died last season. Discussions are also underway with the Life Insurance Corporation of India to introduce comprehensive insurance coverage for all pilgrims.

## Infrastructure and Cleanliness Enhancements

Post-monsoon, Sannidhanam will undergo a deep cleaning, and additional rooms will be constructed at Sabari Guest House, pending approvals. The Board has also decided to discontinue individual sponsorship of the Annadanam scheme, opting to serve a standard meal to all pilgrims.
