## Supreme Court Intervention
India's Supreme Court has requested responses from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the government regarding a petition from Class 12 students in Gulf and West Asian countries. These students are seeking relief due to disruptions in their 2026 board exams caused by regional conflicts.
## Petition Details
The petition, filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, argues that students faced extraordinary challenges during their exams, impacting their preparation and mental health. It calls for compensatory grace marks, special exams, and relaxed admission criteria to prevent students from losing an academic year.
## Key Demands
The petitioners are asking for grace marks, special exams without subject limits, and a "better-of-two" results policy. They also seek a review mechanism for the CBSE's assessment scheme and a reduction in the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) eligibility criteria from 75% to 60% for the 2026-27 academic year.
## Concerns Over Academic Year Loss
The petition highlights the risk of students losing an academic year due to delayed or revised results. It urges educational institutions to offer provisional admissions and special counselling sessions to ensure students' academic futures are not jeopardized. The petitioners emphasize that the conflict has affected all students, regardless of whether exams were postponed or not.
