India, France hold first joint working group meeting on critical minerals cooperation

## First Joint Working Group Meeting

India and France have initiated their first joint working group meeting focused on critical minerals cooperation. The meeting took place in New Delhi on July 6, 2026, and was co-chaired by Benjamin Gallezot, France's Interministerial Delegate for Strategic Minerals, and Kameshwar Saip, Joint Secretary of India's National Critical Mineral Mission.

## Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in the exploration, processing, and recycling of critical minerals and rare earth elements. Both nations aim to develop resilient and sustainable supply chains. The meeting also identified potential areas for joint projects in France, India, and other key markets.

## Key Participants and Discussions

The French Geological Survey's Regional Director for Asia, Olivier Froz, participated in the meeting alongside representatives from the Geological Survey of India. The session included interactions with Indian industry leaders, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

## Building on Previous Agreements

This meeting builds on the France-India Joint Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in Critical Minerals, signed during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India in February 2026. The declaration aims to strengthen cooperation in exploration, mining, research, and innovation, focusing on supply chain resilience and diversification.
