Dubai expands truck rest areas by 56%, adding 364 parking spaces

## Expansion of Truck Rest Areas Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has significantly increased the capacity of truck rest areas across the emirate. The expansion adds 364 new parking spaces, raising the total to 1,007 spaces, a 56% increase. This initiative aims to support the logistics sector and enhance road safety.

## Key Locations and Additions The largest addition occurred at Al Ruwayyah 2, with 107 new spaces. Other significant expansions include Lehbab 2 with 90 spaces and Lehbab 1 with 47 spaces. Additional spaces were added at Madinat Hind 2, Al Tayy, and Al Ruwayyah 1. Construction is ongoing at Nad Al Hamar, where 60 more spaces are planned.

## Strategic Importance The expansion aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to bolster Dubai's status as a global trade and logistics hub. The RTA's long-term strategy focuses on developing a comprehensive truck infrastructure to support economic growth and freight movement.

## Benefits for Road Safety and Logistics The expanded facilities aim to improve road safety by reducing illegal roadside parking and regulating truck movements during restricted hours. They also provide essential services for drivers, such as accommodation, dining, and vehicle maintenance, enhancing driver wellbeing and traffic flow.

## Future Plans The RTA has completed 14 out of 16 planned truck rest areas, strategically located along major logistics corridors. The authority continues to implement safety campaigns and technical inspections to ensure compliance and safety on the roads.
