## Warm Welcome in Jakarta
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a ceremonial Guard of Honour in Jakarta, marking the start of his official visit to Indonesia. The reception was led by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, highlighting the strong personal rapport between the two leaders.
## Focus on Strategic Partnership
The visit aims to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2018. Key discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral defense and maritime cooperation. This includes joint military exercises and defense industry collaborations, such as Indonesia's acquisition of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
## Economic and Trade Relations
India and Indonesia's trade relationship is robust, with bilateral trade reaching $24.78 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Over 130 Indian companies are actively investing in Indonesia. The talks are expected to address critical mineral acquisitions, as Indonesia is a major producer of nickel, bauxite, copper, and tin.
## Broader Diplomatic Tour
Following his engagements in Indonesia, PM Modi will continue his diplomatic tour to Australia and New Zealand. The visit is part of India's strategy to enhance ties in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on strategic, economic, and people-centric cooperation.
