## Venus Williams' Return to Indian Wells
Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, has accepted a wild card invitation to participate in the Indian Wells WTA tournament this March. This marks her return to the event for the first time since 2024.
## Organizers' Enthusiasm
Tommy Haas, the director of the tournament, expressed his excitement about offering the first wild card of 2026 to Williams. He described it as an "honour" to have the US tennis icon compete in both singles and doubles.
## Williams' Recent Performances
Earlier this year, Williams made headlines by becoming the oldest woman to compete at the Australian Open. She received a wild card there as well, and despite a strong effort, she was defeated in the first round by Olga Danilovic.
## Sporadic Play in Recent Years
Williams has been selective in her tournament appearances over the past few years. She made a notable return last July at the DC Open after a 16-month break from the sport.
