## AI-Powered Border Solutions
Dubai's smart travel system processed over 9.4 million travellers in the first half of 2026. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) reported that 9,024,736 passengers used Smart Gates, while 439,321 opted for the Red Carpet service.
## Enhanced Efficiency
The Red Carpet service, powered by artificial intelligence and biometric technology, has significantly reduced immigration clearance time to just 3.4 seconds per traveller. This represents a 60% reduction from previous processing times. The system can handle up to 10 travellers at once, eliminating the need for paper documents and physical interaction.
## Smart Gates as a Key Component
Smart Gates remain a crucial part of Dubai's border operations, allowing eligible travellers to complete immigration procedures swiftly. This technology has improved airport capacity and operational efficiency, enhancing security and passenger flow.
## Pre-Registration Encouraged
Travellers are advised to pre-register for the Smart Gates and Red Carpet service to expedite their airport experience. Pre-registration can be verified through the GDRFA Dubai website.
## Commitment to Innovation
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri emphasized that the Smart Travel ecosystem aligns with Dubai's vision of leveraging innovation to enhance quality of life and global competitiveness. Major General Talal Ahmed Al Shanqiti highlighted the continuous evolution of Dubai's airport ecosystem through intelligent solutions.
## Future Vision
GDRFA Dubai's initiatives support the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aiming to position the city as a leading global destination for living, working, and visiting. The Smart Travel ecosystem is a model for the future of travel, balancing security with seamless mobility.
