## Comprehensive EV Strategy
Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy aimed at reducing pollution and promoting sustainable transport in the city. The policy, effective until March 31, 2030, includes incentives for purchasing electric vehicles, developing charging infrastructure, and managing e-waste.
## Infrastructure and Incentives
The policy focuses on expanding the charging network, with plans to increase charging points from 9,000 to 32,000. It also offers subsidies and scrapping incentives to make EV ownership more affordable. The government is working with various stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.
## Phased Transition
From January 1, 2027, only electric autos will be registered in Delhi, with electric two-wheelers following in April 2028. Existing petrol and diesel vehicles can continue to operate until the end of their legal lifespan.
## Addressing Concerns
Gupta assured that Delhi's power infrastructure is prepared to handle increased electricity demand due to EV adoption. The government is also investing in solar energy to support this transition.
## Future Plans
While e-rickshaws are not included in the current policy, a separate framework will be developed after consultations. The policy aims to make electric vehicles the default choice in Delhi, excluding strong hybrids from subsidy benefits.
