## Project Overview
Abu Dhabi's Early Childhood Authority (ECA) has successfully concluded a three-year international project aimed at enhancing ethical standards in child research. The initiative, known as the Child Assent Project, focuses on ensuring that children's voices are considered in research processes and that their informed agreement is obtained in an age-appropriate manner.
## Workshop and Implementation
To mark the project's completion, ECA hosted a workshop as part of its Research Grants Programme. This event brought together over 20 researchers to discuss the application of the project's findings in future studies and policy development. The workshop included practical sessions and discussions on integrating child assent into research methodologies.
## Research Grants and Priorities
The 2026 Research Grants Cycle supports five projects centered on early childhood development. These projects explore various themes, including children's and parents' perspectives on education, the influence of Emirati culture on identity, and the use of artificial intelligence in understanding children's experiences.
## Expert Insights
Dr. Qasim Abdullah from the United Arab Emirates University highlighted the workshop's role in providing researchers with valuable tools for improving child-focused studies. Dr. Nadira Ghanimi emphasized the importance of treating informed assent as a continuous process that respects children's rights and enhances research quality.
## Broader Impact
The Research Grants Programme has supported numerous projects, resulting in scientific publications and the training of over 100 early-career Emirati researchers. The initiative aims to bridge the gap in early childhood research by developing practical approaches that can be adapted both locally and internationally.
