Indian passport services in UAE: Inside Consulate in Dubai handling applicants after 17 years

## Consulate Takes Over Passport Services

The Indian Consulate in Dubai has resumed handling passport services directly after 17 years, taking over from an outsourced agency. This change was prompted by delays in launching new Indian Consular Application Centres due to legal issues.

## Enhanced Facilities for Applicants

The consulate has implemented several measures to improve the experience for applicants. A large tent covers the courtyard to protect from the heat, and free refreshments are provided. The consulate's auditorium has been converted into the main processing area, with additional seating available.

## Staff and Volunteer Support

Around 100 consulate employees, along with community volunteers, are managing the increased workload. Priority is given to newborns, senior citizens, and individuals with special needs. Services offered include passport renewals, visa services, and various attestations.

## Tips for Applicants

Applicants are advised to prepare by bringing necessary documents and cash, as payments are currently cash-based. A token system will be introduced, and mobile phones must be stored in lockers before entering certain areas.

## Weekend Services

While the consulate is closed on weekends, it collaborates with community organizations to provide services in Sharjah and Fujairah, ensuring wider access for Indian expats in the UAE.
