AMMA leadership row deepens as Shwetha Menon disputes interim panel's mandate

## Leadership Dispute in AMMA

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is embroiled in a leadership crisis as Shwetha Menon, former president, contests the legitimacy of a newly formed interim committee. This dispute follows the resignation of Menon and her executive team during the Annual General Body meeting on June 21.

## Formation of Ad Hoc Committee

In response to the resignations, a nine-member ad hoc committee was established to manage the organization until new elections occur. This committee is led by Congress MLA Ramesh Pisharody and includes former minister and actor KB Ganesh Kumar.

## Menon's Challenge

Menon argues that according to AMMA's by-laws, her executive committee should remain in power until a new one is elected. She claims the ad hoc committee lacks legal standing and accuses certain factions of attempting to seize control by misleading members.

## Disputed Resolution

Menon also alleges that a group of members presented a pre-drafted resolution at the June 21 meeting, demanding her committee's resignation. She contends that this resolution did not achieve the necessary two-thirds majority, rendering it invalid.

## Support for Interim Panel

Supporters of the interim panel counter that Menon had already resigned before any no-confidence motion could be addressed. They assert that the General Body's unanimous approval grants the interim committee a legitimate mandate.

## Future Uncertain

With both sides claiming rightful leadership, AMMA faces potential legal and organizational challenges as it navigates this contentious period until new elections are held.
