Dubai Metro overhauls 262 escalators to improve safety and reliability

## Major Escalator Overhaul Completed

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Keolis MHI, has successfully refurbished 262 escalators within the Dubai Metro network. This significant upgrade covers approximately 63% of the metro's escalators, aiming to enhance safety, reliability, and passenger comfort.

## Focus on Safety and Efficiency

The refurbishment involved detailed inspections and the replacement or refurbishment of crucial components such as handrail belts, drive systems, and motor units. This initiative is part of RTA's broader strategy to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for metro users.

## Minimizing Service Disruption

Dawood Alrais, Director of Rail Maintenance at RTA's Rail Agency, emphasized that the maintenance work was strategically scheduled during non-peak hours to minimize disruption to metro services. The upgrades have already resulted in improved escalator performance and reduced unexpected breakdowns.

## Supporting Dubai Vision 2030

This project aligns with Dubai Vision 2030, which focuses on making the city a top global destination through continuous investment in infrastructure. The escalator overhaul reflects RTA's commitment to maintaining high-quality transport infrastructure and supporting sustainable urban development.
