UAE court sentences Emirati to 3 years, Dh5 million fine for using social media to incite child marriages in Morocco

## Court Ruling

An Emirati man, Saif Salem Saif Ali Al Maqbali, has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals' State Security Chamber. He was also fined Dh5 million for using social media to promote child marriages in Morocco.

## Social Media Misuse

The court found that Al Maqbali had posted a video encouraging marriages to underage girls in Morocco, falsely asserting that such practices were legal there. This action led to his expedited trial after investigations by the UAE Attorney-General.

## Legal and Social Implications

The court ordered the removal of the video, closure of his social media accounts, and confiscation of the mobile phone used. The content was deemed to incite sedition, hatred, and societal discrimination, damaging relations between the UAE and Morocco and violating UAE laws and values.
