## Monumental Project Near Yerevan
Armenia is close to finishing the world's tallest statue of Jesus Christ, located on Mount Hatis, approximately 30 kilometers from Yerevan. This ambitious project, supported by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, aims to create a landmark surpassing Brazil's Christ the Redeemer.
## Statue Specifications
The statue is designed to reach a total height of 77 meters, with a 33-meter figure of Christ placed atop a 44-meter pedestal. This will make it significantly taller than the 38-meter Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
## Construction Challenges
The construction faced delays due to archaeological and environmental concerns. Authorities initially paused the project after discovering ancient fortress remains on the site. Work resumed after relocating the construction site and obtaining new permits.
## Cultural Impact
Proponents believe the statue will boost religious tourism and symbolize Armenia's Christian heritage, as it was the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD. However, some critics, including the Armenian Apostolic Church, argue it conflicts with traditional values and risks damaging cultural heritage.
