## Court Ruling
An Islamabad court has sentenced Umar Hayat to death for the murder of 17-year-old TikTok influencer Sana Yousaf. The ruling was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka, who found Hayat guilty of killing Yousaf at her home on June 2, 2025. The death sentence is pending confirmation by the Islamabad High Court.
## Case Background
Hayat, 23, was apprehended shortly after the murder. Investigations revealed that he developed an obsession with Yousaf through social media, which led to the crime. Hayat confessed to traveling to Islamabad with a firearm, entering Yousaf's home, and shooting her in front of her family.
## Legal Consequences
In addition to the death penalty, Hayat was ordered to pay Rs2.5 million in compensation to Yousaf's family. Failure to pay will result in an additional six-month prison term. He also received separate sentences for related offenses, including robbery and defamation, which will run concurrently.
## Public Reaction
The murder of Sana Yousaf, who had a significant social media following, sparked outrage and discussions on women's safety in Pakistan. Her parents expressed relief at the verdict, hoping it serves as a warning against violence towards women.
