## New Railway Route Approved
Kuwait's Municipal Council has given the green light for a new high-speed rail route connecting Kuwait to Saudi Arabia. This railway is part of a larger 500-kilometer project aimed at enhancing transport links between Kuwait City and Riyadh.
## Route Details
The approved section in Kuwait will stretch approximately 85 kilometers from the southwestern border with Saudi Arabia to the Shadadiya area, near a new university campus. This development is part of a broader initiative to improve regional connectivity within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
## Project Timeline and Impact
Construction is expected to commence later this year, with the railway anticipated to be operational by 2030. Trains will travel at speeds up to 300 km/h, reducing travel time between Riyadh and Kuwait to under two hours. The project includes three daily trips and is a segment of the 2,200-kilometer Gulf railway network, which aims to link all six GCC member states.
## Regional Connectivity
The Gulf railway network, once completed, will connect Kuwait in the north to Oman in the south, facilitating both passenger and cargo transport across the region. Over half of the estimated $15 billion project is already finished, with full operation expected by 2030.
