## UAE Leads Passport Rankings
The United Arab Emirates has solidified its position as the holder of the world's most powerful passport for 2026, according to Arton Capital's Passport Index. The UAE passport now grants access to 182 destinations, marking the highest score ever recorded by the index.
## Diplomatic and Economic Influence
The UAE's top ranking reflects its growing diplomatic and economic influence. Emirati citizens benefit from extensive access to global markets and tourism destinations, a result of the country's strategic international engagements and bilateral agreements.
## Passport Force Initiative
Since the UAE Passport Force Initiative began in 2017, the country has climbed from 88th to first place in less than a decade. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been pivotal in enhancing the UAE's global mobility.
## Global Trends in Passport Rankings
While the UAE continues to rise, other regions face challenges. Singapore holds second place with a score of 175, and Malaysia remains the only other Asian nation in the top tier. Meanwhile, European countries like Luxembourg have improved their standings, with Luxembourg moving from 10th to fifth place.
## Decline in World Openness
The Passport Index's World Openness Score, which measures global accessibility, has declined to its lowest since 2023. This is due to increasing digitalization of border systems and stricter visa regulations.
## Changes in Welcoming Countries
Countries like Australia, the US, Canada, and New Zealand have seen declines in the Welcoming Countries ranking due to tighter visa restrictions. Conversely, the UK has improved its position despite implementing Electronic Travel Authorisations.
