## Settlement Overview
Adani Enterprises, a major Indian conglomerate, has agreed to pay $275 million to settle allegations of violating US sanctions on Iran. The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced the settlement, which involves liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports.
## Alleged Violations
Between November 2023 and June 2025, Adani purchased LPG shipments from a Dubai-based trader. The trader claimed the gas originated from Oman and Iraq, but OFAC indicated that the shipments were likely from Iran. This led to US financial institutions processing payments totaling approximately $192.1 million.
## Compliance and Red Flags
Adani Enterprises had a sanctions compliance program in place, originally developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, which prohibited Iranian-origin cargo. Despite conducting Know Your Customer checks, Adani was reportedly alerted multiple times about the potential Iranian origin of the LPG.
## Market Impact
The settlement comes amid broader US sanctions on Iranian energy exports, part of efforts to curb Tehran's oil and petrochemical sectors. The case highlights the complexities companies face in navigating international trade and compliance with sanctions.
