UAE sets monthly salary deadline for private sector from June 1

## New Salary Regulations

Starting June 1, 2026, the UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation mandates that private sector salaries must be paid on the first day of each month. This initiative aims to enhance wage protection and ensure labor compliance.

## Compliance and Penalties

Under the new rules, companies must transfer at least 85% of wages on time to be deemed compliant. Delays in payment will trigger escalating penalties, beginning with electronic monitoring and warnings. From the fifth day of delay, companies may face suspension of new work permits. Continued delays beyond the 16th day could lead to labor disputes being registered on behalf of affected workers.

## Severe Consequences for Non-Compliance

If delays extend past 21 days, companies employing 50 or more workers may be referred to public prosecutors. Additional measures include asset seizures and travel bans on company officials. The rules exclude certain categories, such as workers in active disputes or on unpaid leave, and short-term work permits.

## Employer Responsibilities

Employers remain legally responsible for timely wage transfers, even if third parties are authorized to process payments. The new regulations are part of broader efforts to ensure fair labor practices in the UAE.
