## Community Effort Saves Young Youssef

A 10-year-old Iraqi boy named Youssef has received a life-changing injection in the UAE, thanks to a successful community fundraising campaign. The injection, known as the world's most expensive, is a crucial treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare genetic disorder that weakens muscles and the heart.

## Fundraising Success

The treatment was made possible after a campaign raised Dh10.6 million. This effort was organized by the Dar Al Ber Society and supported by a public appeal from Al Khaleej Newspaper. Youssef's father, Haider Al Waeli, expressed gratitude for the support that enabled his son to undergo necessary medical procedures and receive the injection.

## A Mother's Relief

Youssef's mother shared her emotional relief, stating that the UAE's intervention not only saved her son's life but also brought hope to their family. Youssef began showing symptoms of the disease at age four, leading to a diagnosis of muscular dystrophy, which requires costly and specialized treatment to manage.
