## Ceasefire Extension
Lebanon and Israel have agreed to prolong their ceasefire by 45 days following US-mediated discussions. This extension comes amid ongoing cross-border tensions, with the ceasefire initially set to expire soon.
## Upcoming Negotiations
The US State Department announced plans for further negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting political resolution. These talks are scheduled for early June, with military delegations from both countries meeting at the end of May.
## Continued Tensions
Despite the ceasefire, hostilities persist, with Israel continuing to target Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Shia group, aligned with Iran, has been firing into Israel, escalating the conflict. Hezbollah is not part of the current negotiations in Washington.
## Goals for Peace
The US hopes these discussions will lead to a permanent peace agreement, ensuring mutual recognition of sovereignty and security along the shared border between Lebanon and Israel.
