## Emotional Visit to Mentor's Home

VD Satheesan, the chief minister-designate of Kerala, was moved to tears during a visit to the home of his late mentor, G. Karthikeyan, in Thiruvananthapuram. This visit was part of a series of courtesy calls before his swearing-in as Chief Minister on May 18.

Satheesan was welcomed by Karthikeyan’s family, including his wife M.T. Sulekha and son K. Sabarinadhan. Overcome with emotion, Satheesan was gently reminded by Karthikeyan’s wife that a chief minister shouldn't cry, to which he responded with a smile.

## Reflecting on a Deep Bond

Satheesan spoke to reporters about the profound influence Karthikeyan had on his political career. He credited his mentor for encouraging him to re-enter politics and contest elections in 1996 and 2001, after initially stepping away to practice law.

Karthikeyan's support was pivotal in Satheesan's political journey, helping him secure a win in the 2001 elections from Paravur. Satheesan regards Karthikeyan's family as his own, acknowledging the late leader's role in his rise in politics.

## Busy Day of Outreach

As the chief minister-designate, Satheesan had a packed schedule, meeting with senior Congress figures such as A.K. Antony and outgoing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He also visited UDF convenor Adoor Prakash and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala.

Satheesan's swearing-in ceremony is set for Monday at 10 am at Lok Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.
