Pakistan hockey chief resigns after 'shabby' winless Australia tour

## Resignation Follows Winless Tour

The head of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Tariq Bugti, has resigned following a disastrous tour in Australia where the national team failed to win any matches. The resignation came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an investigation into the tour's mismanagement.

## Players' Complaints

Team captain Ammad Butt criticized the federation for failing to provide adequate accommodation, forcing players to stay in a guest house in Hobart, Tasmania. Players were reportedly required to handle their own meals and laundry due to insufficient funds for hotel expenses.

## Financial Struggles

The players had previously boycotted a training camp over unpaid daily allowances, which are their sole income as they do not receive match fees or central contracts. Butt expressed frustration over the ongoing financial issues affecting the team.

## Performance Decline

Once a powerhouse in field hockey, Pakistan has seen a decline, now ranked 14th globally. The team lost all eight matches in the Pro League, including defeats against Australia, Germany, Argentina, and the Netherlands.

## Future Prospects

Pakistan has not qualified for the last three Olympics and will attempt to secure a spot in the next World Cup during a qualifying round in Egypt next month. The World Cup will be held in the Netherlands and Belgium in August.
