## Court Calls for Mediation in Kapur Family Feud

The Supreme Court has intervened in a heated inheritance dispute involving the family of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur. The conflict, which centers on his estate, involves his widow Priya Sachdev Kapur, his 80-year-old mother Rani Kapur, and his children from a previous marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor.

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, due to cardiac arrest while playing polo in London. Since then, tensions over his estate have escalated, prompting the court to advocate for mediation.

## Supreme Court's Stance

During a recent hearing, Justices JB Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuyan emphasized the importance of mediation, urging all parties to engage sincerely in the process. They highlighted the human aspect of the case, particularly Rani Kapur's age, and stressed the need for a resolution to avoid a prolonged legal battle.

The court also questioned the necessity of additional legal filings, reiterating its expectation for the parties to commit to mediation.

## Corporate Control Concerns

In addition to the inheritance issues, the court has temporarily halted a corporate decision related to the family's business interests. This move came after Rani Kapur filed an application accusing Priya Sachdev Kapur and others of attempting a "forced takeover" of the estate.

The court's interim order prevents Raghuvanshi Investment Private Limited from appointing independent directors or altering banking signatories, pending mediation outcomes.

## Family Dynamics

The dispute has left the Kapur family divided since Sunjay's death. He was married to Priya Sachdev Kapur, with whom he had a son, Azarius. He also had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, with his former wife, Karisma Kapoor. The ongoing legal conflict reflects broader issues of succession and control within the family.
