Amnesty calls for 'war crimes' probe into Israeli destruction of south Syria homes

## Amnesty's Call for Action

Amnesty International has urged an investigation into potential war crimes by the Israeli military in southern Syria. The organization claims that since December 2024, Israeli forces have deliberately destroyed civilian homes in the Quneitra province without military necessity.

## Satellite Evidence

Amnesty used satellite imagery to confirm the damage to 23 structures across three villages in the region. The destruction reportedly began after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, when Israeli forces entered the UN-demilitarised zone in the Golan Heights.

## International Law Concerns

The rights group argues that Israel's actions violate international humanitarian law and calls for reparations. Kristine Beckerle, Amnesty's deputy regional director, emphasized that securing borders does not justify demolishing homes in another country.

## Ongoing Tensions

Despite ongoing talks between Israeli and Damascus authorities, Israeli military operations in southern Syria persist. Israel has occupied the Golan Heights since 1967, a move not widely recognized internationally.
