## New Office for Heritage Management

The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) has inaugurated the Sharjah World Heritage Office. This initiative aims to enhance the management and protection of UNESCO World Heritage sites in the emirate. The office will oversee sites that are already listed, nominated, or have the potential to be recognized, ensuring they meet international standards.

## Strategic Framework

The establishment of this office follows an Emiri Decree by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. It coincides with the recent inscription of Faya on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2025. The office will manage nomination files, maintain digital records, and conduct studies to support heritage preservation efforts.

## Responsibilities and Goals

The World Heritage Office will develop management plans and prepare reports for international bodies. It will also coordinate with local and international entities to ensure the sites' sustainability and compliance with the 1972 World Heritage Convention. Additionally, the office will oversee the AED2 million Faya Research Grant program.

## Enhancing Global Presence

Director-General Eisa Yousif emphasized the importance of this new milestone in managing Sharjah's cultural heritage. The office aims to integrate scientific research with sustainable protection, enhancing Sharjah's presence on international heritage platforms. It will also engage in capacity building and represent Sharjah at global forums.

## Commitment to Heritage

The launch of the World Heritage Office reflects Sharjah's dedication to preserving its cultural and natural heritage. By adopting a long-term, institutional approach, the emirate positions itself as a hub for research and conservation, contributing to the shared human heritage.
