## Initiative Overview
The UAE has introduced a pioneering national programme aimed at developing Emirati nursing leaders and enhancing emergency preparedness. This initiative, known as the "Emirati Nurses" programme, was launched by the UAE Readiness and Response Programme "Jaheziya" to coincide with International Nurses Day on May 12.
## Collaborative Efforts
The programme is a collaborative effort involving global healthcare and emergency response organizations, such as the European Centre for Disaster Medicine and the American Nurses Association. It is implemented in coordination with various UAE institutions, including healthcare, police, and emergency services, under a unified framework focused on emergency readiness.
## Programme Goals
Dr. Adel Al Shamri Al Ajmi, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative, highlighted that the programme aims to serve as a national accelerator for Emirati nursing professionals. It focuses on specialized training, research, and continuous professional development to enhance critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills among nurses.
## Educational Opportunities
The initiative has established the UAE’s first national nursing academy, offering accredited courses and simulation-based workshops. These educational opportunities are designed to improve emergency preparedness and response capabilities. The academy also organizes specialized nursing forums and live emergency exercises, which are part of the professional licensing requirements set by UAE health authorities.
## Strategic Importance
Fatima Al Hathithi, President of the Emirati Nurses Initiative, emphasized the programme's role in supporting internationally accredited training and fostering innovation. Emily Boren, Director of the Nursing Training Programme at the American Nurses Foundation, noted the academy's focus on emergency preparedness through virtual reality training and other advanced methods.
