Dubai completes region’s first smart waterway mapping project

## Innovative Mapping Project

Dubai Municipality has successfully completed the Middle East's inaugural smart waterway mapping project. This initiative utilized advanced mobile geospatial technology to survey the emirate's waterways and canals.

## Cutting-Edge Technology

The project employed the Leica TRK mobile mapping system, which was mounted on a specially equipped vessel. This technology captured precise geospatial data along the Dubai Water Canal in Al Jaddaf, contributing to the emirate's digital infrastructure and smart city initiatives.

## Enhanced Urban Planning

The pilot phase involved detailed surveying and the creation of accurate 3D models in collaboration with specialized partners. These models are expected to enhance urban planning, infrastructure management, and digital governance by providing continuously updated spatial data.

## Future Prospects

Eng. Maitha Alnuaimi, Director of the GIS Centre Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized that this project is part of broader efforts to build an integrated geospatial database. This database supports Dubai’s Digital Twin project and aims to improve data-driven decision-making across government entities.

## Ongoing Expansion

Dubai Municipality plans to continue expanding surveying operations across the emirate's waterways. This expansion is in coordination with relevant authorities, preparing for the next operational phase and broader application of the project's findings.
