## Indian Passport Ranking Update

The Henley Passport Index has placed India in the 78th position as of May 2026, a slight decline from its previous 75th spot earlier this year. Despite this drop, Indian passport holders still have access to 56 destinations through visa-free, visa-on-arrival (VOA), and electronic travel authorisation (ETA) options.

## Visa-Free and Easy Entry Destinations

Indian citizens can travel to 30 countries without a visa, 23 countries offer VOA, and 3 destinations require an ETA. This accessibility supports travel plans, especially during festive seasons like Eid, when short-haul trips are popular.

## Factors Influencing the Ranking

The changes in India's passport ranking are attributed to global visa policy adjustments rather than significant shifts in India's bilateral agreements. The Henley Passport Index evaluates the mobility of passports based on access to 227 destinations worldwide.

## Global Passport Leaders

Singapore currently tops the 2026 rankings with access to 192 destinations. Japan, South Korea, and the UAE follow closely with 187 destinations. European countries like Germany, France, and Spain also rank high, with access to over 185 destinations.

## Long-Term Mobility Trends

India's passport reached its highest rank of 71st in 2006. The current position reflects a gradual recovery in global mobility, with India's relative improvement in travel strength compared to other countries, despite ongoing changes in visa policies worldwide.
