50% of Gulf Railway project completed

## Project Overview

The Gulf Railway project, a major infrastructure initiative connecting the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, has reached 50% completion. The 1,700-kilometer rail network is on track to be fully operational by December 2030.

## Economic and Environmental Impact

Mohammed Al Shebrami, Director of the GCC Rail Authority, highlighted the project's role in enhancing economic integration and strengthening supply chains across the region. The railway is expected to boost passenger numbers from six million in 2030 to over eight million by 2045. Freight volumes are also projected to rise significantly, from 200 million tonnes in 2030 to 271 million tonnes by 2045.

The railway will integrate with existing air, road, and maritime networks, offering an alternative to truck transport. This integration aims to reduce emissions and environmental impact.

## Collaborative Efforts

The project is a collaborative effort involving representatives from each GCC member state and national companies. This cooperation underscores the commitment of the GCC states to enhance the region's global economic standing.
