Dubai will host a moon sighting event on May 17, 2026, to observe the Dhu Al Hijjah crescent. This event, organized by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, will take place at the Jebel Nazwa Trail starting at 5pm and continue until the moon is sighted after sunset.
## Importance of Crescent Sighting
The event underscores the significance of crescent sighting in Islamic tradition, marking the beginning of Hijri months. Dr. Hamad Mohammed Saleh, a key figure in the Dubai Crescent Sighting Committee, emphasized the department's commitment to blending traditional Sharia-based observation with modern astronomical methods.
## Expected Dates for Eid Al Adha
According to astronomical calculations, the new moon for Dhu Al Hijjah will appear on May 17, 2026, at 12:01 AM UAE time. This suggests that Dhu Al Hijjah will likely begin on May 18, with the Day of Arafah on May 26 and Eid Al Adha on May 27.
