Saudi team completes 16-hour separation of Tanzanian twins

## Complex Surgery in Riyadh

A Saudi medical team has achieved a significant milestone by successfully separating Tanzanian conjoined twins, Nancy and Nice, in a complex 16-hour operation. The surgery took place at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh, under the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs.

## Multidisciplinary Approach

The procedure involved 35 consultants and specialists across various fields, including anaesthesia, paediatric surgery, and plastic surgery. The twins were joined at the lower chest, abdomen, and pelvis, sharing parts of the liver, intestines, and reproductive systems.

## Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme

This operation marks the third successful separation of Tanzanian twins and the 71st under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme. The programme, active for over 35 years, has reviewed 157 cases from 28 countries, highlighting Saudi Arabia's role in specialized medical care.

## Gratitude and Support

The twins' family expressed their gratitude to the Saudi leadership and medical team for their dedication and expertise. The programme's success is attributed to the support of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Mohammed bin Salman, positioning Saudi Arabia as a leader in humanitarian medical initiatives.
