## A Life Behind the Lens

Ramesh Shukla, known as the "royal photographer" of the UAE, was cremated on Wednesday. His son Neel and family members gathered at the New Sonapur Crematorium to say their goodbyes. Shukla, who passed away at 87, was renowned for capturing the UAE's formative years through his lens.

## Capturing History

Shukla's work includes the famous image of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan signing the Union declaration in 1971. This photograph has become a symbol of national unity. His son Neel emphasized that the family never commercialized these images, preserving them as part of the nation's history.

## A Legacy Preserved

Shukla's wife, Tarulatta, played a crucial role in developing many of his negatives in their modest darkroom. Despite limited resources, they managed to protect these historical images. Neel noted that his father's wish was to preserve and protect this history, ensuring its importance for future generations.

## Honored by Leadership

The family expressed gratitude for the condolences from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recognizing Shukla's contributions to the nation. As mourners paid their respects, Shukla's legacy was celebrated, with his images continuing to tell the story of the UAE's early days.
