## Kitchen Safety Campaign
Sharjah Civil Defence has launched a new safety campaign, "Spark of Awareness," to emphasize the importance of supervising children in kitchens. The campaign warns that kitchens are a common site for household accidents, particularly involving burns and scalds from hot surfaces and boiling liquids.
## Risks of Unattended Cooking
Officials highlight that leaving children unsupervised in the kitchen is a major cause of domestic injuries. A campaign image shows a child reaching for a boiling pot, illustrating how quickly accidents can occur. The natural curiosity of children, combined with their lack of awareness about heat dangers, increases the risk of incidents.
## Safety Recommendations
Parents and caregivers are urged to ensure children are never left alone when cooking appliances are in use. Keeping children at a safe distance from active cooking areas can prevent accidental contact with heat sources.
## Emergency Response
In case of an accident, residents are advised to call emergency services immediately by dialing 997. The campaign aims to reduce the risk of fires and other emergencies caused by unattended cooking.
