## Strengthening Governance and Sustainability
A recent forum in Dubai, organized by Dubai Chambers in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, urged Indian family businesses to register with the UAE's Unified Family Business Registry. This initiative aims to bolster governance and ensure long-term growth for these enterprises.
## Key Discussions and Legislation
The event, attended by 87 members of the Indian Business and Professional Council, highlighted the importance of the UAE’s Federal Decree Law No. (37) of 2022 on Family Businesses. This law is designed to provide a flexible legal framework to support the sector's sustainability and growth.
## Benefits of Registration
The Unified Family Business Registry offers services such as registration certificates and family charter deposits, which help maintain continuity in management and operations. The registry is part of the UAE's strategy to create a sustainable business environment that enhances competitiveness and leadership on a regional and global scale.
## Economic Impact
Family businesses are crucial to the UAE economy, contributing around 60% of the GDP and employing 80% of the workforce. They are active in sectors like hospitality, retail, and real estate. The forum emphasized the need for these businesses to adopt advanced institutional models to adapt to global changes and seize new opportunities.
## Support and Advisory Services
The Dubai Centre for Family Businesses has launched advisory services to assist with family charters, governance reviews, and family office planning. A directory of family business advisers is also available to provide specialized expertise, further supporting the sector's growth and stability.
