Abu Dhabi has inaugurated its first net-zero energy mosque in Masdar City as Ramadan begins. This mosque is a pioneering example of sustainable religious architecture, merging traditional Emirati design with modern environmental technologies.

## Innovative Features

The mosque operates entirely on solar power, producing as much energy as it consumes annually. It has earned prestigious sustainability certifications, including LEED Platinum and Net-Zero Energy from the International Living Future Institute. The structure includes 1,074 square meters of solar panels and can accommodate up to 1,300 worshippers.

## Design and Functionality

Inside, the mosque features a spacious, column-free prayer hall and a unique rammed earth Qibla wall, which helps maintain a comfortable indoor climate. The building incorporates passive design elements like optimal orientation and natural ventilation to minimize energy use. Additionally, it includes Abu Dhabi's first greywater recycling system, repurposing ablution water for irrigation.

## Community and Cultural Hub

Opening during the UAE's Year of Family, the mosque is set to be a community center during Ramadan and beyond, hosting various cultural and faith-based events.
