## Eruption Details
The Mayon Volcano in the Philippines erupted on Saturday afternoon, releasing a fast-moving pyroclastic flow and a thick ash plume. This event occurred around 5:30 PM, as observed from Legazpi City in Albay province, approximately 500 kilometers southeast of Manila.
## Impact on Local Areas
The eruption caused significant disruptions, with thick gray smoke reducing visibility and halting traffic along the Camalig Bypass Road. Video footage showed heavy ashfall covering parts of Camalig, leading to challenging conditions for residents.
## Safety Warnings
Authorities have issued warnings about the dangers of pyroclastic flows, which consist of hot gas, ash, and volcanic material. These flows can move rapidly and pose serious risks to nearby communities. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone around the volcano.
## Monitoring and Alerts
Mayon Volcano is one of the most active in the Philippines and is under close observation by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The alert level remains at 3, indicating ongoing volcanic activity. Officials are assessing the situation for potential further eruptions and possible evacuations.
