## UAE Endorses IMO Resolution
The United Arab Emirates has expressed strong support for a resolution passed by the International Maritime Organisation's Marine Environment Protection Committee. This resolution, adopted during the committee's 84th session, calls on Iran to immediately stop any attacks or threats against commercial vessels and port infrastructure. The resolution highlights the risk of significant marine pollution from such actions, which could have far-reaching environmental impacts in the region.
## Environmental and Economic Concerns
The UAE emphasized the importance of safeguarding Gulf waters, which are crucial for food, water, and economic security. The resolution warns that attacks on maritime infrastructure could lead to large-scale pollution, threatening the region's rich marine biodiversity and potentially disrupting fishing and navigation activities vital to millions of people.
## Regional Cooperation Encouraged
The resolution also encourages member states and relevant organizations to enhance cooperation in pollution preparedness and response. It calls for reviewing contingency plans for dealing with major pollutants in the Arabian Sea, Sea of Oman, and the Gulf region. The IMO Secretary-General has been invited to monitor the environmental impact of Iran's actions.
## UAE's Commitment to Stability
UAE officials, including Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak and Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, have condemned any attacks on maritime infrastructure, stressing the potential for widespread consequences. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Special Envoy for Nature, reiterated the UAE's commitment to working with international partners to prevent escalation and protect the region's natural systems, recognizing the link between environmental security and regional stability.
